I left for my assignment in the Dominican Republic on September 23rd, 1980, with Beverly Howard (Kupferman).
In January of 1981 Stuart Tipton, a Bethelite, came and visited me. We got engaged to be married. Stuart was invited to the 71st Class of Gilead. He graduated on the 13th of September, 1981, and on the 15th of September we got married. We were briefly assigned as special pioneers to Newark, New Jersey, until January 18, 1981, when we returned to the Dominican Republic. (In the mean time, Beverly got married and moved to Columbia.)
For the next 22 years we had several assignments in the Dominican Republic, San Pedro de Macorís, Salcedo, La Vega, Higüey, and San Juan de la Maguana. In 1990 we got to be temporary construction workers at the Branch Construction, working in the kitchen. We had the privilege of helping many new ones to serve Jehovah.
At the end of February, 1994, we were transferred to Oregon to serve as special pioneers. (We live 24 miles from Stuart's parents.) In May of 1994 we spent two months in Germany to help while my father was dying. My mother died a year ago, in August of 2009 and I was with her.
We work now with a Spanish congregation. Our congregation's territory has a publisher ratio of about one to sixty. We usually have about 20 studies every month between us. |
