Brigitta and I had great fun in the Dominican Republic for the year that we spent together. I was one sister that actually enjoyed being single. But, when Brigitta got engaged and Stuart Tipton went through Gilead to marry Brigitta, I earnestly prayed to Jehovah to not leave me alone as a single missionary. The answer to my prayer arrived in the form of Bart Gibson. We married in the D.R., then were assigned to a small (8 miles X 1 mile) island, named San Andres, owned by Colombia, 60 miles off the coast of Nicaragua. This was a vacation paradise. We were alone for the first year. But after many break-ins, two Mexican missionaries were assigned to live with us. They spoke no English, so this really helped with my Spanish. Our spiritual blessings on the island were amazing. We helped many to come to dedication and baptism to Jehovah. We enjoyed the agony and ecstasy of island-fever for one more year. Our next assignment was Cartegena, on the northern coast of Colombia. This city was also a vacation paradise. There were seven of us that lived together there for two years. Again, we were abundantly blessed with a constant treasure of those who studied to dedication and baptism. From there, we were assigned to Bucaramanga, high in the Andes. From our very first meeting with this congregation, it was love at first sight. Until this assignment, we always lived in extreme heat, and I very much missed my mother, and because of my dyslexia and ADD, learning Spanish was the most difficult thing I ever did. But, my Mom passed away, the climate in Bucaramanga was relatively cooler, and I did finally learn to speak Spanish. After 2 years of the best service of my life, at 43 years old, my menopause turned into our son, Greyson Blake Gibson. We were going to stay in Colombia as special pioneers, but it was too dangerous to have a child there. Kidnapping!!! Sadly, we returned to the States. We settled in to the Dover, NH Congregation. There was a pressing need for elders and pioneers in that congregation. And, for the next 12 years we pioneered together, while daily thanking Jehovah for the blessing of our son, and for the means to continue in the full-time service. Sadly, this did not continue and Bart and I divorced. Greyson at this time is not following the way of the truth but I hope he will return to serving Jehovah, before it's too late. And, at 60 years old, I reinvented myself once again in my life. I went back to my maiden name. I am Beverly Kupferman. This year I celebrated my 35Th year of full-time service. I changed congregations-Brentwood, NH. I lost 200 lbs, and have kept if off for six years. I'm 65 now, and no longer color my hair. My boy says that I have a "silver crown". I tossed the eyeglasses and my contacts are bright royal blue. I live in a retirement community that has four other Witness families living here too. I have a roommate. Missie, my Kittie. (Miss Moneypenny) We respect each other's space. And yes, again, I am happily single. Over the years, in my service, there has been a steady flow of progressive students. Somehow, Jehovah's spirit directs me to every Spanish-speaking person in South Eastern NH. Service continues to be my life's great joy. I have had many serious health problems in recent years. So, I have come to clearly understand the meaning of the word, "modesty". I don't know how, but some way or another, Jehovah will get me to San Diego. I so look forward to seeing everyone. With much love and remembrances, Beverly |
